Resolved Question: moving to Yorktown, VA area?

My husband will be relocating his Job to Newport News. I have been looking for smaller towns in the area with low crime rates and good schools that feel quaint and perfect for raising young children. We found Yorktown to be idealistic....until we saw the home prices. Is theere another nice town in the area that might have the same feel? Thank you!
